Durability
Thanks to top-tier innovation, your floors can stand up to a variety of inevitable traffic, from kids to pets, dents, scratches, and more. Laminate, vinyl, and hybrid resilient floors are extremely durable and are great flooring choices for houses, commercial spaces, and anything in-between.
Laminate | AC Rating
Laminate is a popular choice for living rooms, as it looks just like real hardwood and can withstand lots of activity like playful pets, kids, and guests.
Laminate durability is measured by an AC (Abrasion Class) Rating. The higher the AC rating, the more durable the floor. At Floor & Decor, you can find products with AC ratings 3-5, ranging from moderate scratch resistance to extreme scratch resistance. For the most durable laminate floor, look to our AquaGuard Performance products, which provide extreme scratch resistance and have an AC5 rating.
Vinyl | Wear Layer
Vinyl planks have a [rigid core](https://www.flooranddecor.com/s/floor-decor/help-center/product-questions/help-product-vinyl/hc-what-is-rigid-core.html), which is engineered to give it added stability. This makes the plank less pliable and sturdier, making them feel even more like hardwood.
Vinyl planks are protected by a wear layer. A wear layer is a transparent protective film that defends against scratches, stain, and wear. The thicker the wear layer, the more durable the floor.
- 6mil wear layer provides light scratch resistance
- 12mil wear layer provides moderate scratch resistance
- 22mil wear layer provides heavy scratch resistance
- 30mil wear layer provides extreme scratch resistance
Techtanium Plus
Our hybrid resilient brand, Optimax Performance, and vinyl brand, NuCore Performance, feature our Techtanium Plus protective coating. This technology, found exclusively at Floor & Decor, offers double the scratch resistance compared to a 22mil wear layer.
