Real People, Real Projects: Dog Rescue’s Durable Flooring

Where It All Started

When SPEAK! for the Unspoken moved into their current space, there was double flooring and different flooring in all the rooms. The training space for animals had a glossy, very slippery, linoleum floor. Not only did this make it difficult for the dogs to get around, but it wasn't easy to clean up after them.

Andrea knew that replacing the whole floor would be expensive. She says, "We set off in search of trying to decide what to do and then realized very quickly that it's gonna be very expensive to replace the floor in our entire space."

The Project Begins

According to Andrea, "One of our volunteers was in Floor & Decor one day shopping for her personal home and started talking to the manager of the store there and, next thing I know, I'm getting phone calls from the manager of Floor & Decor."

When he heard about SPEAK! for the Unspoken, Floor & Decor store manager, Chris, saw an opportunity to give back to his community. He says, "One of the main reasons why I really want to stay in this company is really for the people of the company. We take care of everyone everywhere we go, not only our people inside of Floor & Decor, but our people in the community. And for us to be able to give back so much, it's just such an amazing feeling."

Local stores and businesses are the lifeblood of our neighborhoods, and they have a responsibility to give back to the people who support them. Whether it's through donations, volunteering, or simply spreading awareness, giving back is a powerful way to create a positive impact. Not only does it help those in need, but it also fosters a stronger sense of community and camaraderie.

Chris describes the process of replacing the floor as a big job, saying, "We had about five associates every day from Monday through Friday go in help either rip out or go ahead and start the installation process. So it was a large overhaul, somewhere around 1100 to 1300 square feet of flooring that we had to rip up and then reinstall."
