FAQs
How do I install laminate flooring?
One of the many benefits of laminate flooring is its simple and convenient installation. Floating laminate flooring is a click-lock flooring system where planks snap together and rest over an underlayment without being glued or nailed to the subfloor. All Floor & Decor laminate flooring uses click-lock technology.
What type of installation materials do I need to install laminate flooring?
The materials needed to install laminate flooring will depend on the type of laminate planks you choose. Generally, you’ll need:
• Underlayment – Underlayment is a foam or acoustic layer placed underneath the planks to cushion the floor, reduce noise, and add thermal insulation (some laminate products come with pre-attached padding).
• Vapor Barrier / Moisture-Resistant Tape – If not built-in to the underlayment, this is a poly sheeting required when installing over concrete or below-grade areas to block ground moisture. It should be sealed together with moisture-resistant tape.
• Padding – unless you choose attached pad planks.
• Spacers – Wedge-shaped laminate spacers are placed between the laminate and the walls to maintain a 1/4-inch to 3/8-inch expansion gap.
• Installation Kit – A standard installation kit includes a pulling bar, tapping block, and wall spacers.
• You’ll also need finishing and transition materials and a few essential tools.

What are the benefits of laminate flooring?
From incredible durability to unmistakable beauty, the benefits of installing laminate wood floors are endless. Whether you’re looking for wide plank laminate flooring (6”+) to create a clean, expansive look with fewer visible seams, or thick laminate flooring (12mm) for a solid, quiet hardwood feel underfoot while easily bridging minor subfloor irregularities, there’s an option for your home or commercial space.
How long can I expect my laminate flooring to last?
When properly installed and cared for, our affordable and dependable laminate flooring can withstand heavy use with minimal wear and tear for many years. In fact, residential installation is backed by our lifetime warranty; commercial up to 20 years depending on the brand.
Where can I safely use laminate flooring?
The laminate flooring from Floor & Decor is either waterproof or water resistant to help protect your investment from everyday spills in the kitchen and splashes in the bathroom. The waterproof feature also makes it the perfect solution for walk-out basements, or any indoor space exposed to moisture, dirt, and spills. It’s a fantastic option that will withstand constant wear and tear and give the look of real wood floors without the price tag.
What is the difference between laminate and vinyl flooring?
There are several key differences to keep in mind when choosing between laminate versus vinyl flooring. While both vinyl and laminate flooring are often designed as wood look floors, laminate flooring can be both printed and texturized to mimic the look and feel of real wood. What does GREENGUARD Gold Certified Flooring mean?
When you’re comparing flooring, GREENGUARD Gold certification gives you a clear way to identify products that have been independently tested for low VOC emissions. For eco-conscious homeowners, parents with little ones spending plenty of time close to the floor, or anyone who takes a more thoughtful approach to the materials they bring home, it is a useful detail to keep in mind.
